Analog GY-2 High Precision Sclerometer, Fruit Firmness Penetrometer Gauge To Test Maturity Level of Fruit
The penetrometer is ideal for testing a wide range of fruits, can be used to measure the hardness of apples,
tomatoes, avocados, pears, grapes, peaches, kiwi, strawberry, watermelons, bananas to reasonable the picking time, processing time, harvest storage, export transportation, and predictions on breeding.

- The fruit firmness penetrometer is equipped with spring conduction. The hardness of the fruit is affected by the force of the spring on the surface of the fruit, so the spring conduction is more stable, the test result data is more accurate.
It is recommended to take 2 readings per fruit which can either be reported averaged or individually.

measurements.

Measurement Principles:
- The technician should do two measurements at the opposite sides of each fruit,
(i.e.. the sun-side and the shadow-side).
- The point of measurement should be plain and without any fault on the peel.
- With this instrument, the user can see the yielding of the fruit under a certain and constant press power as well as a defined measuring distance. The indicated measured value is a quotient.
- For this reason it is absolutely important that the user always note the anvil employed for
the firmness test.
- The anvil does not penetrate the peel of the fruit.
Note: After every use, wipe the juice from the penetrometer in order to prevent the juices from getting onto the spring inside the penetrometer, don’t clean directly by the water.
Hardness of some common fruits (approximate):
- Apple: 8.0 to 9.2 kg/cm².
- Plum: 3.4 to 4.2 kg/cm².
- Peach: 10.0 to 13.5kg/cm².
- Pear: 7.5 to 7.7kg/cm².
- Kiwifruit: 8.2kg/cm².
- Grape: 0.2 to 1.3kg/cm².
- Strawberry: 0.55 to 0.68kg/cm².
