Prepare Your Home to Sell - Things to Do Before Listing Your House for Sale & Being Prepared
- Remove any debris or refuse from the interior and exterior of the property.
- Clear rooms of boxes. Boxes should be neatly stacked in the basement or a spare room away from walls and outlets.
- Thoroughly clean the entire house. Be sure the lawn is mowed. Bushes and trees should be trimmed away from the house.
- Try to have as many outlets as possible free of appliance cords.
- Remove obstructions, knick-knacks etc. from windows and sills.
- Empty sinks and appliances of clothes, kitchenware, personal items etc.
- Make sure attic and crawlspace entry entries are free from obstruction and accessible.
- Notify your Realtor about or visibly mark any faulty plumbing fixtures, appliances or outlets. This action may prevent water or electrical damage from occurring during an inspection.
- Identify any winterized systems.
- Secure personal items in dressers or other furniture. Part of an inspection involves looking through the closets.
