The Humilog BLD4100 model measures and stores:

  • Relative humidity and air temperatures of environments
  • Surface temperatures
  • Moisture levels (expressed as WME values) of walls, floors and other building components.

Additionally, the Humilog software automatically calculates the dew point temperature. This unique function, when coupled with a surface temperature measurement, is useful when diagnosing or monitoring condensation events in homes, public buildings and storage environments. Logged data may be downloaded to a PC in tabular and graphical form for analysis. The example illustrates how the Humilog is used to confirm the occurrence of condensation by monitoring humidity, air and surface temperature. Condensation occurs when the surface temperature falls below the dew point, as shown by the bottom two curves.

The Humilog system from GE Protimeter is a versatile trend analyzing system for measuring and storing moisture level, humidity and temperature values within the built environment. It may be used for a wide range of moisture level and temperature monitoring applications and for dampness diagnosis applications. The basic Humilog system consists of the following:

  • One Humilog data logger unit
  • One HygroStick humidity and temperature sensor and one surface temperature sensor
  • Two pairs of WME screw electrodes
  • Two pairs of nail electrodes
  • 10m electrode cable
  • One CD containing Humilog program
  • RS232 PC-Humilog interface cable

Humilog sensors, electrodes and other accessories are typically used as follows: Wood Moisture Equivalent (WME) electrodes, for monitoring moisture levels in wood and masonry Remote temperature sensors, often used to monitor surface temperatures when investigating condensation issues. Humidity sleeves, used in combination with the HygroStick to monitor equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) values in walls and floors.

Typical Humilog applications include:

  • Environmental monitoring in buildings
  • Condensation risk assessment and diagnosis
  • Monitoring the drying rates of damp walls and floors in new constructions
  • Flood damage management
