Lutron YK-37UVSD UVA and UVC Light Meter with Temperature Port and SD Card Data Logging
The Lutron YK-37UVSD measures both bands of ultraviolet that matter in practice, using two supplied probes and one meter. The UVA probe covers 250 to 390 nm with peak response at 365 nm — blacklights, curing lamps, inspection lamps. The UVC probe covers 200 to 290 nm with peak response at 254 nm — germicidal lamps and disinfection equipment.
That combination is unusual and it is the reason to buy this meter rather than two. A single band instrument covers half the work: a UVA meter cannot read a germicidal lamp, and a UVC meter cannot read a curing lamp or a blacklight. Anyone whose work spans both — a facility with UV disinfection and UV curing, a laboratory with transilluminators and biosafety cabinets, a service company covering several customers — otherwise carries two instruments and two calibration schedules.
Readings log to an SD card with a date and time stamp at intervals from 1 second to 1 hour, and open directly in Excel with no software to install. The meter also accepts a Type K or Type J thermocouple for a separate temperature channel, which is useful because lamp output and lamp temperature are related.
Ultraviolet light injures eyes and skin, and UVC at 254 nm does so quickly and without sensation — pain and redness appear hours after the exposure. Never look at an energized UV lamp. Wear UV rated eye protection, cover exposed skin, and use the separate probes so the sensor is in the beam and you are not. Some germicidal lamps also generate ozone; ventilate accordingly.
Typical Applications
With the UVC probe, at 254 nm:
- Verifying germicidal lamp output in hospitals, clinics and medical facilities.
- Biological safety cabinets and laminar flow hoods.
- Upper room and in-duct UVGI air disinfection.
- UVC water treatment and wastewater disinfection.
- Surface disinfection equipment and mobile room sanitizing units.
- Food processing and packaging line sterilization.
- EPROM erasure equipment.
With the UVA probe, at 365 nm:
- Curing of inks, adhesives and coatings — checking lamp output before a production run.
- Photoresist exposure and graphic arts platemaking.
- Blacklight and inspection lamp output checks, including magnetic particle and dye penetrant inspection.
- Photochemical matching.
- Weathering and degradation test chambers.
- Monitoring ultraviolet radiation hazards around welding operations.
- Tanning equipment output verification.
- Forensic and document examination lamps.
Features
- UVA and UVC light measurement in one meter, with both probes supplied.

- Type K and Type J thermocouple port with automatic temperature compensation.
- Beeper, which can be switched off.
- Data hold, plus maximum and minimum recording with recall.
- Auto power off, which can be disabled.

Ultraviolet Measurement
Specifications apply at 23 ± 5 °C, and are the same on both the UVA and UVC functions. UVA calibration is performed under UVA light against a standard UVA meter, and UVC calibration under UVC light against a standard UVC meter. Note that 1 mW equals 1 mJ per second.
