Lutron UV-340A Ultraviolet Light Meter, UVA and UVB, 290 to 390 nm, with Remote Sensor

The Lutron UV-340A measures ultraviolet irradiance in microwatts per square centimeter across a 290 to 390 nm band, covering UVA and the upper part of UVB. Two ranges cover weak sources at 1 µW/cm² resolution and strong ones up to 19,990 µW/cm².
The sensor is on a separate corded probe, which matters for this measurement more than most. Ultraviolet sources are things you should not be standing next to — curing lamps, sterilizers, exposure units, arc welding. A corded probe goes where the UV is while you stay back and read the display, and it reaches into a cabinet or under a lamp head where a one-piece meter will not fit. The sensor carries a cosine correction filter, so light arriving at an angle is weighted correctly rather than over-counted.
This meter does not measure UVC. Its band is 290 to 390 nm. Germicidal lamps used for disinfection emit at 254 nm, which is outside this range — the UV-340A will not read them correctly and must not be used to verify germicidal output or to judge whether a UVC lamp is safely off. For 254 nm work use a UVC-254 meter or the YK-37UVSD, which covers both UVA and UVC.

Note that 1000 µW/cm² equals 1 mW/cm². Specifications are tested in an environment with RF field strength less than 3 V/m and frequency less than 30 MHz.
Sensor Storage
The ultraviolet sensor must be stored dry. Seal the probe in a plastic bag with a desiccant pack whenever the meter is not in use, and take it out only to measure. Moisture reduces the sensor's gain over time, which shortens the calibration interval and eventually costs accuracy. Replace the desiccant periodically.
