Lutron AH-4223 Vane Anemometer, 4-in-1 Air Velocity, Humidity, Temperature and Dew Point Meter

The Lutron AH-4223 is a handheld vane anemometer that measures four things at once: air velocity, relative humidity, air temperature and dew point. The vane and the humidity/temperature sensor are both built into the instrument, so there is no probe to carry, connect or lose — the meter goes in a shirt pocket and reads in the duct, at the grille or in the crawlspace.

Air velocity is shown in five selectable units — m/s, km/h, feet per minute, miles per hour and knots — over a 0.4 to 30.0 m/s (80 to 5910 ft/min) range. The low friction ball bearing vane starts turning at low velocity and stays accurate at the top of the range, which is the practical advantage of a vane over a hot wire at grille and diffuser velocities.

A dual line LCD shows two values at a time in one of three selectable modes: humidity and temperature, humidity and dew point, or air velocity and temperature. Dew point is calculated continuously from the humidity and temperature readings, which makes the meter useful for condensation and surface preparation work as well as airflow.

Data hold freezes the display, and a memory record function captures maximum and minimum readings with recall. The meter runs on four AAA batteries and shuts off automatically after ten minutes to save them.

Air Velocity Ranges

Accuracy is ± 3% of F.S. at or below 20 m/s, and ± 4% of F.S. above 20 m/s. Specifications apply at 73 ± 9 °F (23 ± 5 °C).

A vane anemometer reads the average velocity across the face of the wheel, so hold the vane square to the flow and keep it fully inside the airstream. Readings taken at an angle, or with the wheel partly outside the duct or grille opening, read low.
