A thermal (often referred to as hot wire sensor) is a type of sensor used to measure fluid velocity, such as air or water, by using the principle of convective heat transfer. A thermal sensor typically consists of a thin wire, which is heated to a constant temperature using a small electrical current. As fluid flows past the wire, heat is transferred from the wire to the fluid, causing a change in the wire's temperature. The change in temperature is proportional to the velocity of the fluid, allowing for a measurement of flow velocity.
