Lutron GU-3001 High Precision AC/DC Milli Gauss Meter, ±3000 mG, with Case

The Lutron GU-3001 measures both DC (static) and AC magnetic fields down to 0.1 milligauss. It uses an exclusive high sensitivity sensor rather than a conventional Hall element, which is what allows it to resolve fields this small — it is sensitive enough to read the Earth's own magnetic field as a reference. Readings are shown in milligauss or micro Tesla, with an N pole / S pole indicator so you know the polarity of a static field as well as its strength.

The sensor is on a separate corded probe, so the probe can be fixed in place or reached into a tight spot while the meter is read comfortably. A zero adjustment button cancels the ambient background field, which is how you make a precise relative measurement of a part or a material rather than measuring the room it is sitting in. Data hold freezes a reading, and maximum and minimum values are recorded with recall.

NOTE: This meter is uniaxial — it measures the field component along one axis of the probe head. For an unknown field, rotate the probe to find the maximum reading, which is the true field strength and direction.

Typical Applications

  • Checking residual magnetism in machined parts, tooling, bearings and fixtures before assembly or welding.
  • Verifying demagnetization after magnetic particle inspection or machining.
  • Measuring the field strength of permanent magnets and magnetic assemblies.
  • Surveying AC magnetic fields around transformers, motors, panels and wiring.
  • Screening locations for sensitive equipment — electron microscopes, imaging equipment and CRT displays are affected by stray fields.
  • Quality control on materials and components that must be non-magnetic.
  • Laboratory and classroom work, including measuring the Earth's magnetic field.

Features

  • DC and AC milligauss magnetometer in one meter.
  • Exclusive high sensitivity sensor with better performance than the traditional Hall element sensor, for high precision magnetic field measurement.
  • Wide measuring range of ±3000 milligauss.
  • Detects magnetic fields as small as 0.1 milligauss.
  • Measures in milligauss (mG) or micro Tesla (µT).
  • N pole / S pole indicator for DC field polarity.
  • Separate corded probe for easy operation and convenient remote measurement.
  • Precise enough to measure the absolute environmental Earth's magnetic field as a reference.
  • Zero adjustment button cancels the background field for relative measurement.
  • Large S-TN type LCD with high contrast for easy readout.
  • Data hold function freezes the displayed value.
  • Records maximum and minimum readings with recall.
  • RS-232/USB computer interface.
  • Microprocessor circuit assures maximum possible accuracy and provides special functions.
  • Auto shut off saves battery life, and can be disabled for continuous monitoring.
  • Powered by batteries or by an optional DC 9V adapter.
  • Heavy duty compact housing with hard carrying case, designed for easy carry and operation.
